Grass Grazing
Does anyone out there know what nutrients or minerals are missing in commercial dog foods that cause German Shepherds to rip up grass, roots and all, and eat it. I have tried about every high end food that exists on the market. Right now I'm feeding 1/3 Royal Canon German Shepherd, 1/3 Purina Proplan Select Chicken, and 1/3 Eucanuba German Shepherd. They also get a couple tablespoons of unflavored yogurt each feeding. The thinking was that it was an enzyme that was missing. They all do it more intensively in the early spring and in the late fall. Its almost impossible to keep a decent back yard at my place.

Comment by Maximum K9 on June 5, 2010 at 8:43am - My patrol dog did the same thing and I asked our senior trainer what he thought. This guy had 25 plus years of handling/training experience. His agency had 50 plus patrol dogs and he has seen a lot of different issues over the years. His answer was simple "Some dogs are grass eaters". There may be nothing wrong with the dog at all. I took my dog to the vet and he was very healthy. But the only issue we had with it was the self rewarding when he was on a long down in the grass.

Comment by scott schenker on January 24, 2010 at 9:40am - Hi my name is Scott I train K-9's in Maryland I feed all my dogs with Verus canine that is the dry and I add a can of Merrick they come with chicken and so on. You can go on line to Merrick dog food and see who sells it where you live. I thing you will be happy with this. If you have any problems please shoot me a e-mail. Good luck
